IFL operates a state-of-the-art flooring laboratory equipped with advanced, globally recognized testing instruments. The lab performs over 180 physical and chemical tests in accordance with national and international standards, including EN (Europe), ASTM (USA), JAS (Japan), GB (China), and client-specific private protocols. All testing is conducted by accredited laboratory technicians who undergo continuous training to remain current with evolving industry standards and ensure consistently accurate and reliable results.
FORMALDEHYDE TEST
Formaldehyde is a volatile organic compound commonly found in adhesives and resins used in flooring products. Exposure to elevated levels can lead to health issues such as respiratory irritation, allergic reactions, and, with prolonged exposure, more severe effects including an increased risk of certain cancers .
Testing for formaldehyde emissions is crucial to ensure that flooring materials meet safety standards and do not compromise indoor air quality. By identifying and addressing high emission levels before products reach the market, we help protect the health of end-users and maintain compliance with international safety regulations.
DELAMINATION TEST
Delamination is the separation or failure of bonding between the layers of a multilayer flooring plank—such as the top veneer, core plywood, and backing layer. This issue can significantly compromise a product’s structural integrity, appearance, and long-term performance, especially under stress from foot traffic, moisture, or temperature fluctuations.
Delamination testing evaluates the strength and durability of the interlayer bonds to ensure flooring products meet industry standards before they are shipped or installed. Early detection helps prevent product failure, warranty claims, and costly callbacks, giving manufacturers and buyers confidence in the reliability of the flooring.
MOISTURE CONTENT TEST
Moisture content test is a critical quality control measure for wood, bamboo, and laminate flooring products. Incorrect or inconsistent moisture levels within the planks can result in serious post-installation problems—such as warping, cupping, gapping, or delamination—particularly in climates with variable humidity.
While handheld moisture meters provide quick on-site readings, precise measurements conducted under controlled laboratory conditions offer a higher level of accuracy and consistency. These tests help confirm that flooring products are dimensionally stable, compatible with their intended subfloor, and suitable for the target market’s environmental conditions.
SPECIES IDENTIFICATION TEST
Species identification testing is essential for verifying that wood flooring products are accurately labeled and compliant with international regulations. Some timber species are protected under environmental laws or trade restrictions due to concerns over deforestation, illegal logging, or endangered status.
By analyzing the wood’s anatomical characteristics, this test confirms whether the declared species matches the actual material used. It supports compliance with certification schemes such as FSC® and PEFC™, and helps ensure alignment with international sourcing laws, including EUTR/EUDR, UKTR, Lacey Act, and CITES. Accurate species identification promotes transparency, responsible sourcing, and reduces the risk of regulatory violations or reputational damage.
Test reports are typically completed within 3 to 10 working days from the date samples are received.
Test samples are selected by IFL inspectors and then prepared and packaged according to ISO standards. For further information or assistance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
